Zongzi,or rice dumplings is a traditional Chinese snack eaten on China's Dragon Boat Festival following in June every year to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan,an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.
The celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival is not only to commemorate the great national poet Qu Yuan in history.Qu Yuan,also called Qu Ping,lived in the Chu state during the Warring States Period.Before Qu Yuan,we had celebrated for many years for some reasons,it’s really a traditional festival in our country,but as our country developed faster and faster,we got busier and busier,more and more cities and less and less traditional celebration.Nowadays for many people,the meaning of this festival is just to go to the supermaket and buy some Zongzi.No more Dragon Boats Races,no more Drinking Realgar Alcohol,no more wearing talisman.
